Did you get the GC-038 clamp standard with the rotor or did you have to order it separately?
there’s one clamp that comes in the box as you see in the video, and is the upper one that goes to the antenna mast. If you need to install the rotor on a pole then you need to order another one optional for the bottom side. In my case I don’t need that as I put the rotor in a cage. 73
@@IZ0MTW tnx for your quick answer. I bought two years ago a GS-1000dxc and unpacked it yesterday. There is no clamp in the box and when contacting the seller (Hamshop in The Netherlands) they state the top clamp, GC-038, is optional and need to be ordered separately. I think that's wrong since what purpose does a rotor have without a top clamp?
@snuitje100 I agree with you. But you said you bought a GS-1000dxc? Mine is only G-1000dxc without the “S”. Perhaps it was only the motor? guessing…there are few different variants, like the dxa for example. Mine comes definitely complete with upper clamps. Anyway just buy the clamp, I think it shouldn’t be that expensive.

Ho acquistato diversi oggetti della MFJ negli anni. La mia opinione è comunque positiva. È vero ci sono dei limiti, a volte dei difetti, ma non sempre. E a volte sono delle banalità facilmente risolvibili. Hanno prodotti per radioamatori, non per professionisti. Non devono rispondere a normative stringenti. Devono fare il loro semplice lavoro. Hanno una vastissima gamma di prodotti a catalogo, come nessun altro produttore. Questa in definitiva è la mia onestà esperienza ed opinione a riguardo. Saluti

Hi and thanks for your comment. Unfortunately I had to prioritise so many things and didn’t have time to put on my channel lately. There’s always no enough time for everything. I’ll keep that in mind for the future though. 73
@@IZ0MTW I currently have 4 FT-817s at home (including 2 ND). I have read the service manual in the old and new versions. There are actually some mistakes there. But I am interested in AGC modification. How did you make it?

I need to say you did an excellent video. I have the Is same radio with the ATAS100. I used to have the FT100 That had a much larger display. I also have that same microphone But forgot how to use all those features.Thanks for the refresher.

Try adding a 3' patch cord and see if it will auto tune 10 mhz. Your ATAS 120 is much faster than my old ATAS100
What type of cable and length did you use for the counterpoise? Also is there a way to auto-tune this antenna for the IC-705? .. .. .. Cheers!

Very useful Video. Helped me. I too own a Marconi 2965A. You chose 30% Depth. Isnt that too low? Also you didnt use a Filter for Sinad (CCITT), is that OK?

The manual states it wants the probe and the unit to have matching serial numbers. I wonder if this calibration effort would allow alignment if using a replacement probe? BTW: Thank you for your effort producing this video.
you’re welcome and thanks for your comment. You’re correct, probe should match the unit and serial numbers testify that. My probe has no serial number on it so I don’t know what that means. Maybe a replacement bought during the years? Anyway, I performed a check and then a full alignment after I bought the unit second hand. Comparing the readings with all my other instruments I am definitely satisfied about its performance now. A nice bit of kit that I like to keep in my lab.

@@IZ0MTW ti ringrazio. Le ho trovate su hamradioshop, ci sono di due tipi, una con diametro magneti da 13mm e l'altra con diametro magneti da 9mm. A prima vista la tua mi sembra la prima, ossia quella con diametro magneti da 13mm. Mi confermi che hai preso quella da 13mm?

Thank you for your very good video. I also have a Bird43 and an HP437 with an 8485A probe. The problem lies with the attenuators, how do you actually measure their value as a function of frequency.I also have a Nano VNA, but I don't think it's accurate enough for this. In fact the final result depends largely on how exact you can measure the attenuation over the frequency or at the frequency of interest. One tenth of a dB only can change a lot in the final figure for the power output value. We should really take account of all the accuracy in calibration and error propagation. Best wishes Diego

sicuramente una delle migliori radio yaesu di sempre ma sono tutti segnali intorno al 9 quindi immagino anche una buona antenna in 80 , sarebbe bello affiancarla al ft dx 101 e fare comparazioni 73 dal lago di bracciano
Si non stavo testando la ricezione in condizioni critiche quanto la tonalità e qualità di ricezione accoppiato a una cassa della Philips di un mio vecchio impianto anni ‘90. Purtroppo non ho la 101 ma ho già fatto un video dove lo paragono alla 991A, una radio di una generazione molto più giovane. 73
nno capisco perche' non abbiano abilitato un Preamp come nelle altre bande. scelte commerciali suppongo. ne sento piu la mancanza usando le FM piuttosto che in SSB

si,in questa radio è possibile anche se il livello del segnale iniettato è talmente basso che non raggiunge la soglia di intervento dell’agc. Saluti

Hello. Yes I made one myself. When I bought the Boonton it came without the tip. Unfortunately is very rare to find. I made one out of a piece of plastic resembling a tip found just by chance. Made a little hole and insert the center pin of a N male connector. Then filled the tip inside with epoxy. At the base of the tip I soldered a little piece of copper folded to give it a little tension when it come in contact with the center pin of the probe. for the shield I used a piece of solder wick and a little crocodile at the end. Also a short piece of aluminium tube that fits the outer diameter of probe. Is hard to explain but you have to have a bit of vision to use what you’ve got. When I have time I might to a short video showing all I said. 73 Diego

purchased one, as i've installed it mu 857 became absolutely unusable. sensivity wend down of 30 db and power output decrease at 80W. putted back the original and everything works fine. those chinese oscillators are pure garbage
Ciao Diego sono Massimiliano IU8MLV, ti vorrei chiedre una cortesia cioè alcuni pareri tecnici: ho una radio FTM 400 XDE Yaesu. In riferimento ai parametri Adj 02 PWR e quelli Adj 02 DRV nel menù di servizio della FTM 400XDE, Io li ho modificati iniziando come indicato dal manual service, dalla banda UHF alla frequenza di 440.050 Mhz, perche la radio non emetteva esattamente 5 -20-50 watt ma qualcosa in meno ( anche se dicono che è normale perche i dati pubblicati dalla Yaesu sono su banco da laboratorio, poi nella realtà della stazione si leggono un pò meno). In bassa e media li avevo gia settati anche se rano 4,8 e 18,2 watt ( colpa del rosmetro di stazione che ni ha messo i dubbi) che mi segnava potenza in meno pur essendo un Daiwa CN501V. Poi mi si è bruciato il wattometro di precisione con carico fittizio incorporato da 50 watt perchè in alta potenza ho trattenuto troppo il PTT. Stupidamente ho dimenticato di segnare gli appunti su carta ( nel caso dovesse succedere qualcosa e reimpostare gli allineamenti di fabbrica) dei valori esadecimali sia dei parametri ADj 02 PWR che quelli Adj 02 DRV (a proposito, cosa sono i parametri Adj 02 DRV?). Successivamente con un mio amico che ha una radio gemella FTM 400 XDE, ho copiato dalla sua radio i parametri esadecimali cosi: in UHF a 440.050 Mhz bassa potenza 55H - in media potenza 88H e in alta potenza D2H. Invece in ADj 02 DRV ho copiato 00H che in tutti i parametri erano identici, mentre sul manual service indica 9AH- B0H e D0H ma la radio memorizza solo quello che s'imposta per ultimo , per cui ho copiato quello del mio amico cioè 00H. In VHF non ho toccato nulla dopo la bruciatura del wattometro. In assistenza Yaesu mi hanno detto che non è sufficiente copiare i parametri da un'altra radio gemella , ma bisogna controllare gli allineamenti con il manual service sulla radio che si differisce da un modello identico per le tolleranze dei componenti elettronici, Sapresti dirmi se questi valori Adj 02 DRV si riferiscono ai valori di bias o del driver del finale RF ( è un mosfet dual gate)? Ti risulta che il parametro DRV è unico per tutti i 6 livelli ( VHF e UHF) e non 6 valori diversi come dice il manual service. La radio del mio amico ha lo stesso valore su tutti e 6 i livelli, cioe 00H? Potrebbe essere che il manual service è un edizione precedente ai firmware di aggiornamento In quanto io ho messo l'ultimo e potrebbe essere che hanno unificato con un unico valore il parametro Adj 02 DRV che è presente come allinemamento in tutti 6 livelli di potenza RF ( 3 in VHF e 3 in UHF)73 ciao da Massimiliano IU8MLV

get the schematic and have a look on the two range paths where you have that issue. Check the components along those two paths. Visual inspection first..
Do you sell old.movment pleas? Your movnet all is 30uA full scale?
Im trying to decide whether a meter like this would be best for me, or something like a digital MFJ-849 would be. That one would be placed between the antenna and the radio, but your analog meter uses the jack on the front. I'm curious what your thoughts are, I don't understand much of this, but I am trying to. Thanks
How far off was the factory yaesu TCXO?
I don’t have the yaesu tcxo. I just swapped the stock crystal oscillator which was ok because I did aligned it. The problem is that is very temperature sensitive. There comes the chinese tcxo, much more stable.

will the 857 tune shortwave frequencies or CB if you have an appropriate antenna?
Just tune to a nearby band. I tune to 40 meters or 30 to hear SW. If unlocked you can tune exactly there but wouldnillegally tx 7 watts there for a few seconds
